Roahrig Powers to Toledo Victory

After starting on schedule and getting through the first practice session of the evening, a light rain moved over Toledo Speedway. With a setback of nearly half an hour, the goal remained the same, approach the night as if it never rained. Bobby Santos III led the field following practice one and Davey Hamilton Jr followed suit with a fast time in practice two following the delay. Santos once again showed great speed in qualifying as he set fast time and had first choice during the re-draw. The top six drivers in qualifying drew for their starting positions to officially set the field.

The Green to Checkered event started off with a bag as the brother-in-law duo of Billy Wease and Bobby Santos III battled for the lead. Wease maintained a strong lead until Kye O’Gara drove to the front and took command of the race. Looking poised for another 500 Sprint Car Tour victory, Tyler Roahrig appeared out of proverbial nowhere. Starting ninth in the event, Roahrig got stronger with every lap passing car after car after car. With four laps left, Roahrig took the lead for good and sealed his first 500 Sprint Car Tour win of the year.

The 500 Sprint Car Tour returns to racing in just a few weeks’ time as they head back to Anderson Speedway on Saturday, July 13th for the Gene Nolen Classic. The event will be the second of three trips to Anderson Speedway, outside of the Little 500, for the series in 2024. Now with momentum on his side, the two time Little 500 Champion [Roahrig] will be an early favorite heading into the next event.
