Tire Sanctions Announced

Officials with the 500 Sprint Car Tour have announced sanctions arising from its April 14 event at Anderson Speedway. The #1 car driven by Dakota Armstrong and the #7 car driven by Caleb Armstrong have both been disqualified from the event for post-race technical infraction.

During post-race technical inspection, tire samples from the top three finishers were taken and sent to a lab specializing in tire compound analysis. The left rear samples taken from the two above mentioned cars were found to contain a substance not consistent with the standards from Hoosier Tire.

The sample result from the second place finisher showed no other substances in the tire. As a result, the second place finisher, Kody Swanson, is moved to the winner of the race and all finishers below first & third will be moved up two places in the finishing order for the race.

“Penalties in racing are something I do not like to deal with, but completely understand that sometimes they are a necessary evil of our sport,” stated Rick Dawson, Managing Partner of the 500 Sprint Car Tour after announcing the decision. He continued, "I instructed Jared (Owen) and Justin (Carey) to take every action on our side to ensure the results were correct. The samples were sent to the lab at IUPUI who returned the same results. This takes time to accomplish, hence the timing of the announcement. I want to believe that whatever was on the tires was purely unintentional, but the rule states that no substance can be introduced to a tire that is raced. The team has stated they have no idea where the substance came from and it was never their intention to alter the tires”
